Have you ever felt like running away from home? There’s a moment in The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy clicks her heels and whispers, “There’s no place like home.” But what if home has never felt safe? What if your “house”—or even your life—has been filled with betrayal, control, manipulation, and trauma?
Here’s the truth nobody talks about enough:
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run.

Time To Wake-Up!
We’ve been taught to see running away as cowardly. But for those of us healing from emotional or physical abuse, from soul-deep depression or gaslighting so thick we couldn’t see straight—running away might be the first sign that we’re waking up. That we’re choosing ourselves. That we finally believe we deserve more.
Running can be the beginning of coming out of survival mode.
Coming out of hiding.
Coming out of a life that’s not ours.

What Is Home Anyway?
In this week’s podcast, Running Away, Coming Out, & Finding Home, we explore what it means to leave what’s known and start building something new. Something safe. Something yours.
Because “home” isn’t the place you grew up in. It’s not four walls and a roof. It’s not a space you’re told to stay in just to keep the peace.
Home is a place that honors your peace.
Home is where you’re seen, safe, and allowed to hold a space.
For many survivors, we didn’t run away—we escaped. And that’s nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it’s something to celebrate. Getting out is hard. Starting over is harder. But somewhere along the way, you realize: you’re not lost—you’re free.

Finding Your Home
And now comes the beautiful, uncertain, empowering part: making your new home.
Maybe it’s an apartment filled with sunlight and thrift-store furniture.
Maybe it’s a spiritual home, where your beliefs no longer hurt you.
Maybe it’s just the first time your body feels like a safe place to live in.
- You get to choose
- You get to build
- You get to belong—-to yourself
You’re not running away from something anymore. You’re running toward something better.
Do one small thing today that makes your space feel more like home. Light a candle. Rearrange your furniture. Toss something that reminds you of the past. Hang up a sign that says, “I belong here.”
Then take a deep breath and say out loud, I’m not running away—I’m running toward me.
And trust this: you’re not alone. We’re running with you. 👣💛
